Description
The (1876) Proof Dollar Pattern - J-1475a is a proof trade dollar pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. It is Anthony C. Paquet's trade dollar design, which carries no date. The first seven editions of Judd listed it under 1873 as J-1320 and J-1321; it is now placed in 1876 because Walter Breen linked it to $600 paid to Paquet for hubs in May 1876, and Roger Burdette found a Mint record of December 18, 1877 listing undated Paquet trade dollar dies, one obverse and one reverse. USPatterns.com confirms four silver examples, one of them in the Smithsonian. Reverse hub trials of the design in white metal (J-A1876-3) are also known. It is struck in silver with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-7. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1627, Adams-Woodin 1338 and Taxay EP915. Cataloged as PCGS #534817.
