Description

The 1876 Proof Dollar Pattern - J-1467 is a proof dollar pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. Its obverse is William Barber's Liberty at the Seashore design, modified from the 1875 version; USPatterns.com considers these trade dollar essais, and the silver pieces are on 420-grain trade dollar planchets. Five silver examples are traced, the number the standard references give as struck. It is struck in silver with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-7. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1618, Adams-Woodin 1490 and Taxay EP1003. Cataloged as PCGS #61789.
