Description

The 1876 Proof Dollar Pattern - J-1462 is a proof dollar pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. It is one of four similar Sailor Head obverses William Barber made for the 1876 dollar patterns, each paired with a common reverse; USPatterns.com considers these trade dollar essais, and the silver pieces are on 420-grain trade dollar planchets. This obverse has IN GOD WE TRUST above the portrait and 13 stars around it. USPatterns.com records two silver examples, both from Woodin's collection. It is struck in silver with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-8. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1612, Adams-Woodin 1484 and Taxay EP1014. Cataloged as PCGS #61783.
