Description
The 1876 Proof Dollar Pattern - J-1461 is a proof dollar pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. It is one of four similar Sailor Head obverses William Barber made for the 1876 dollar patterns, each paired with a common reverse; USPatterns.com considers these trade dollar essais, and the silver pieces are on 420-grain trade dollar planchets. This obverse has IN GOD WE TRUST below the portrait. The single plain-edge copper example is ex Farouk and the Bass Foundation. It is struck in copper with a plain edge. USPatterns.com lists it as unique. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1611 and Taxay EP1013. Cataloged as PCGS #61782.
