Description
The 1875 Proof Dollar Pattern - J-1421 is a proof dollar pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Metric & Stella Patterns (1874-1879) series. It pairs William Barber's Liberty at the Seashore obverse with the regular No Motto Seated Liberty dollar reverse of 1840 to 1865, a combination USPatterns.com regards as a fantasy made for sale to collectors. The same reverse die, which shows traces of rust, was used again on J-1470 and J-1471. Adams and Woodin say eight were struck in copper; USPatterns.com confirms five, one of them in the Connecticut State Library. It is struck in copper with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-7. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1564 and Adams-Woodin 1424. Cataloged as PCGS #61728.
