The 1873 Proof Cent Pattern - J-1256 is a proof cent pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Trade Dollar Era Patterns (1871-1873) series. It was struck from the regular 1873 Indian Head cent dies. USPatterns.com regards the 1873 copper and aluminum strikings from regular dies as pieces made for sale to collectors in complete sets, cent through double eagle. Two examples are believed to exist in aluminum. It is struck in aluminum with a plain edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-8. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1397 and Adams-Woodin 1361. Cataloged as PCGS #61541.
