Description

A copper striking of the Indian Head cent design for 1873, J-1256 provides the standard base-metal comparison in the program's final year. With the Coinage Act now law, these 1873 cent patterns existed in a fundamentally different legislative context from their 1871-1872 predecessors. The cent denomination would continue largely unchanged through the reforms, but the overall pattern program now served to implement rather than merely propose the new coinage system.
