About This Coin
The 1872 Three Dollar Patterns page groups the three-dollar patterns dated 1872 in the Trade Dollar Era Patterns (1871-1873) series, all struck at the Philadelphia Mint. J-1235 to J-1237 carry William Barber's uniform gold design, the only pattern design ever made for this denomination, in gold, copper and aluminum; J-1238 and J-1239 are copper and aluminum strikings from the regular dies.
