Description
The 1872 Proof Dollar Pattern - J-1221 is a proof dollar pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Trade Dollar Era Patterns (1871-1873) series. It pairs William Barber's adaptation of Longacre's Indian Princess design with the first trade dollar reverse, which reads TRADE DOLLAR, 420 GRAINS and 900 FINE inside an open wreath. Four or five are known in copper. It is struck in copper with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-7. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1363, Adams-Woodin 1246 and Taxay EP877. Cataloged as PCGS #61493.
