1872 Proof Dollar Pattern - J-1208
Strike TypeCoin Details
Auction Record

Description
The aluminum companion to J-1206, this trade dollar pattern translates the conventional Seated Liberty concept into the exotic lightweight metal. While never a practical candidate for international trade, the aluminum striking preserved the design for posterity in a medium impervious to tarnishing. An aluminum dollar at the trade dollar diameter creates an especially dramatic weight contrast with the production coins.
Rarity Notes
R-7 to R-8. Very rare, approximately 3-8 examples survive.
