Description
Featuring a design that builds upon the established trade dollar concept with refinements to the reverse eagle composition, J-1220 was struck in aluminum. The design at this stage of the 1872 series shows the cumulative influence of the preceding experiments, with the eagle reverse becoming increasingly standardized even as obverse details continued to evolve. Aluminum strikings in the late portion of the dollar series served as preservation records for designs approaching their final forms.
