1872 Proof Cent Pattern - J-1180
Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
The copper companion to J-1179, this cent pattern renders the Indian Head design in its standard production composition. For 1872, the cent patterns are notable for their continuity with the 1870-1871 program, suggesting that the Mint saw no need to modify the cent's design as part of the coinage reform effort. The Indian Head design, barely a dozen years old, was considered modern enough to survive any coming changes.
