The 1872 Proof Cent Pattern - J-1179 is a proof cent pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Trade Dollar Era Patterns (1871-1873) series. It was struck from the regular 1872 Indian Head cent dies. USPatterns.com regards the 1872 copper and aluminum strikings from regular dies as pieces made for sale to collectors in complete sets, cent through double eagle. Pollock does not list it; USPatterns.com records one in the 1914 American Numismatic Society exhibition and suggests that any others may pass as regular proofs. It is struck in copper with a plain edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-8. It is also catalogued as Adams-Woodin 1280. Cataloged as PCGS #61450.
