Description
The 1870 Proof Two Cent Pattern - J-793 is a proof two-cent pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Standard Silver Patterns (1870) series. It was struck from the regular 1870 two-cent dies. Its planchet shows streaks of silver on a mostly copper ground, said in the 1890 Parmelee sale to be native Michigan ore; USPatterns.com notes it may be experimental and traces five examples, one in the Smithsonian. It is struck in silver and copper rolled together with a plain edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-7. It is also catalogued as Pollock-879 and Adams-Woodin 1072. Cataloged as PCGS #61036.
