The 1870 Proof Dime Pattern - J-874 is a proof dime pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Standard Silver Patterns (1870) series. It was struck from the regular 1870 dime dies. USPatterns.com regards the 1870 off-metal strikings from regular dies as pieces made for sale to collectors in complete sets, cent through double eagle, rather than true die trials. Two are known in aluminum. It is struck in aluminum with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-8. It is also catalogued as Pollock-971 and Adams-Woodin 1036. Cataloged as PCGS #61118.
