Description
A copper striking of the regular Seated Liberty obverse with Standard Silver wreath reverse, J-827 translates the silver dime design into base metal for comparative evaluation. Copper impressions served a dual purpose in the 1870 Standard Silver program: they allowed the Mint to study how design details transferred across different alloys and provided affordable specimens for distribution to collectors and officials. The warm reddish-brown tones of the copper contrast sharply with the silver versions, revealing how dramatically a coin's appearance changes with composition. Struck with a reeded edge.
