Auction Record
$2,875 PR66 03-22-2012 Stack's Bowers
Description
Copper with a reeded edge carries the forehead ornament Liberty Head and Standard wreath reverse. The rich copper surfaces of this pattern provide an ideal canvas for appreciating the subtle differences between this seventh obverse variant and the earlier Liberty Head designs in groups 3, 4, and 5. Collecting all nine dime design groups in copper represents one of the more accessible approaches to surveying the 1870 Standard Silver dime program, as copper strikings generally command lower prices than their silver counterparts at auction.
