Description
Closing Group 2 of the dime patterns, J-836 presents Barber's Seated Liberty obverse and the regular dime reverse in aluminum with a plain edge. This piece completes the six-variety survey of the second die combination in the 1870 Standard Silver dime series. The absence of edge reeding on this aluminum striking further reduces the already minimal tactile presence of the coin, creating what may be the most physically unassuming dime-sized pattern in the entire 1870 program. Despite its light weight, the proof striking reveals crisp design details throughout.
