Description
Barber's Seated Liberty obverse with the regular issue dime reverse, struck in copper with a reeded edge. The copper composition reveals details of Barber's engraving work that silver strikings sometimes obscure: the fine lines of the liberty pole, the individual leaves of the olive branch, and the flowing drapery of Liberty's gown all register with exceptional clarity in the denser metal. Copper strikings from the 1870 Standard Silver program are prized by pattern collectors for their sharp definition and the rich tonal variety that develops as they age.
