Description
The 1870 Proof Dime Pattern - J-832 is a proof dime pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Standard Silver Patterns (1870) series. Its obverse is William Barber's new seated Liberty of 1870, facing left with her right hand on a shield crossed by a LIBERTY scroll, an olive branch in her left hand and a pole and cap behind her, with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA around and the date below. Its reverse is the regular 1870 dime die, with ONE DIME in a wreath. USPatterns.com reports that these pieces were sold in complete sets. More than a dozen are known in silver. It is struck in silver with a plain edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-6. It is also catalogued as Pollock-922, Adams-Woodin 1029 and Taxay EP656. Cataloged as PCGS #61076.
