Description

Introducing a new obverse by William Barber, J-831 features a seated Liberty facing left, supporting a shield with a scroll inscribed LIBERTY in her right hand and holding an olive branch in her left, with a free-standing liberty pole behind. This bold redesign replaced Longacre's familiar figure with a more classically proportioned composition emphasizing Liberty's dual role as defender and peacemaker. The reverse uses the regular issue Seated Liberty dime die with its open laurel wreath enclosing ONE DIME. Struck in silver with a reeded edge, this piece represents Barber's first contribution to the Standard Silver dime series.
