Description
The 1868 Proof Eagle Pattern - J-663 is a proof eagle pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Reconstruction Era Patterns (1866-1869) series. Its obverse, attributed to Longacre, shows a Liberty head facing left in a coronet inscribed LIBERTY within 13 stars, and its reverse a small eagle with a shield on its breast and IN GOD WE TRUST on a scroll above. Over a dozen are known in aluminum. It is struck in aluminum with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-6. It is also catalogued as Pollock-736, Adams-Woodin 652 and Taxay EP545. Cataloged as PCGS #60881.
