The 1867 Proof Nickel Pattern - J-584b is a proof five-cent pattern struck outside the Mint from Mint dies, as USPatterns.com believes, part of the Reconstruction Era Patterns (1866-1869) series. It is a muling of the 1867 Liberty head with a star on the coronet and a Washington obverse with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Judd lists it in silver with a plain edge, and USPatterns.com rates it unique. USPatterns.com ties these pieces to dies Joseph Mickley bought from the Mint as scrap; many of them went into the Crosby collection. USPatterns.com believes it may be unique.
