Description
The business strike counterpart to the proof J-566, this piece demonstrates how the pattern design would appear under regular production conditions. Business strike nickel patterns are particularly informative for the 1867 series because the die breakage problem that prompted the design change was specifically a production-speed issue rather than a proof-striking concern. Testing designs at production speed and pressure provided more relevant data about die longevity than proof striking could offer. The harder copper-nickel alloy required greater striking force than bronze or silver, making die design optimization critical for efficient mass production.
