The 1867 Proof Nickel Pattern - J-582 is a proof five-cent pattern struck outside the Mint from Mint dies, as USPatterns.com believes, part of the Reconstruction Era Patterns (1866-1869) series. It pairs the 1867 Liberty head with a star on the coronet with the regular reverse without rays. Judd lists it in nickel with a plain edge, and USPatterns.com rates it R-8. USPatterns.com ties these pieces to dies Joseph Mickley bought from the Mint as scrap; many of them went into the Crosby collection. USPatterns.com records two or three. It is catalogued as Judd-582, Pollock-642, Adams-Woodin 625. Cataloged as PCGS #60794.
