Description
The 1867 Proof Nickel Pattern - J-572 is a proof five-cent pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Reconstruction Era Patterns (1866-1869) series. It was struck from the regular 1867 Shield nickel dies with rays, so its design matches the regular coin; only the metal differs. Judd lists it in copper with a plain edge, and USPatterns.com rates it R-7. Judd classes it as a die trial, a strike from regular dies in a metal other than the coin's own.
