Description
The 1867 Proof Nickel Pattern - J-566 is a proof five-cent pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Reconstruction Era Patterns (1866-1869) series. Its obverse is a Liberty head like the nickel three-cent piece, with no star on the coronet; the reverse is a plain laurel wreath with IN GOD WE TRUST above and CENTS in a straight line under the 5. Judd lists it in nickel with a plain edge, and USPatterns.com rates it R-6. Judd classes it as an essai, a trial of a proposed design. USPatterns.com estimates two to three dozen. It is catalogued as Judd-566, Pollock-627, Adams-Woodin 626, Taxay EP493. Cataloged as PCGS #60776.
