An improper alloy mix is visible on this 1867/67 overdate Indian Head cent. An improper alloy mix, also known as a "woody" or woodgrain effect, occurs when the metals in the planchet are not properly blended during the alloying process, creating distinctive streaked patterns across the coin's surface. In this case, the woodgrain pattern runs from northwest to east on the obverse and from southwest to northeast on the reverse. The 1867/67 overdate variety shows clear evidence of the date being repunched, with traces of the underlying "67" visible beneath the final date. This is one of the more dramatic date varieties in the Indian Head cent series.
