This 1915 Lincoln Wheat cent exhibits an improper alloy mix, commonly known as a "woodgrain" or "woody" cent. The coin displays distinctive graining running northwest to southeast on the obverse and southwest to northeast on the reverse. The opposing grain directions on the obverse and reverse are characteristic of this error type, resulting from insufficient mixing of the bronze alloy components during ingot preparation.
