Judd-453b is the second compositional variant of J-453, representing the third alloy tested for this die combination. The existence of three distinct compositions (J-453, J-453a, J-453b) plus the gold J-452 means this double eagle With Motto design was tested in four different metals — an unusually thorough evaluation for a gold denomination.
