The 1865 Proof Double Eagle Pattern - J-453a is a proof double eagle struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Civil War Patterns (1860-1865) series. Judd lists a silver double eagle here; USPatterns says the one example, in the Connecticut State Library, is a silver-plated or pickled copper J-453 and should not have its own number. It is struck in silver with a reeded edge; USPatterns records it as unique. Catalogued as Judd-453a, Pollock-525. Cataloged as PCGS #11085.
