1865 Proof Double Eagle Pattern - J-453
Strike Type
Coin Details
Description
Judd-453, Pollock-519, is a proof double eagle motto pattern struck in copper, providing a more accessible version of the design concept that exists in unique gold form as J-452. The copper composition allows collectors and researchers to examine the With Motto double eagle design without the barriers presented by the multi-million-dollar gold version. The copper striking weighs significantly less than a gold double eagle due to the difference in density between the two metals, giving the piece a distinctly different tactile quality. Struck with proof finish.
Rarity Notes
