Description

Judd-364, Pollock-435, is the second 1864 proof two-cent pattern in the production-year refinement series. This variety may feature the Small Motto or Large Motto version of IN GOD WE TRUST, the two variants that collectors distinguish on regular 1864 two-cent production coins. The Small Motto variety is significantly rarer in regular production and is one of the key rarities of Civil War coinage. Identifying which motto size appears on each pattern variety helps establish the chronology of die preparation.
