Description

Judd-395, Pollock-466, is the fifth and final 1864 proof half dollar motto pattern, concluding the denomination's four-year, twenty-variety contribution to the motto development program. From the GOD OUR TRUST experiments of 1861 through the refined IN GOD WE TRUST patterns of 1864, the half dollar served as the primary design laboratory for what became one of the most enduring features of American coinage. The adopted 1866 With Motto half dollar incorporated the lessons of this extraordinary experimental series.
