Description
The 1864 Proof Half Dollar Pattern - J-392 is a proof half dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Civil War Patterns (1860-1865) series. This half dollar carries the IN GOD WE TRUST reverse adopted in 1866, so it is often called a transitional piece; USPatterns says these were made after 1866, from about 1869 into the early 1870s, and sold in sets. It is struck in copper with a reeded edge; USPatterns rates it R-7. Catalogued as Judd-392, Pollock-460, A/W 437, Taxay EP399. Cataloged as PCGS #60563.
