Description
The 1864 Proof Half Dollar Pattern - J-394 is a proof half dollar struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Civil War Patterns (1860-1865) series. This half dollar carries the IN GOD WE TRUST reverse adopted in 1866, so it is often called a transitional piece; USPatterns says these were made after 1866, from about 1869 into the early 1870s, and sold in sets. It is struck in nickel with a reeded edge; USPatterns rates it R-8. Catalogued as Judd-394, Pollock-462, Taxay EP401. Cataloged as PCGS #60565.
