Description
Judd-312, Pollock-364, features the shield design for the two-cent piece in what is one of the compositions closer to the finally adopted alloy. The standard version of J-312 was struck in bronze or copper, and it represents a near-final stage in the design evolution. The shield obverse had by this point settled into its general configuration, with a vertically-striped Union shield bearing the motto banner across its midsection. The reverse wreath and denomination layout were also approaching their final form, making J-312 one of the patterns most closely resembling the production two-cent piece that debuted in 1864.
