Description
This restrike of Judd-319 was produced after the original strikings, by John W. Haseltine or another party who had access to the dies in the years following their initial use. Restrikes of pattern coins were common in the mid-to-late 19th century, as the dies were sometimes sold or loaned to private parties who produced additional impressions for the collector market. These restrikes can typically be identified by later die states showing wear, cracks, or other deterioration that was not present on the original strikings. Despite their restrike status, these pieces remain valuable historical documents of the original 1863 design.
Rarity Notes
Rarity-6. More available than original strikings, with approximately 10-20 specimens known.
