Coin Details
Description
Judd-331a is the first of three compositional variants of J-331, making the complete J-331 set the most extensively tested die combination in the 1863 dime series. This version shares the identical obverse and reverse dies as the standard J-331 but was struck on a different alloy planchet. The broader range of compositions tested for J-331 compared to other varieties in the series indicates this design was a frontrunner among the concepts being evaluated.
