Description
Judd-327, Pollock-397, is the plain-edge aluminum striking of the 1863 postage currency ten-cent pattern. This ten-cent piece was proposed as a coin to replace Postage Currency notes: one side has a small shield in a wreath with EXCHANGED FOR U.S. NOTES, the other POSTAGE CURRENCY, ACT JULY 1862 and 10 CENTS 1863; David Cassel's research, reported by USPatterns, found many of the weights and alloys given in Judd to be wrong. USPatterns reports 16 aluminum pieces struck on May 20 and 15 on May 27, 1863. It is struck in aluminum with a plain edge. Catalogued as Judd-327, Pollock-397, A/W 381, Taxay EP346.
