Description
Judd-326a is a compositional variant of the J-326 dime pattern, struck in an alternative alloy. This off-metal striking shares the die combination of J-326 but was produced on a planchet of different metallic content, copper or aluminum. The systematic production of these variants demonstrates the Mint's methodical approach to evaluating dime design options across multiple compositions simultaneously. Each alloy interacts differently with the die surfaces during striking, potentially revealing design details or weaknesses not apparent in other metals.
