Description
The 1863 Proof Dime Pattern - J-328a is a proof dime struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Civil War Patterns (1860-1865) series. This ten-cent piece was proposed as a coin to replace Postage Currency notes: one side has a small shield in a wreath with EXCHANGED FOR U.S. NOTES, the other POSTAGE CURRENCY, ACT JULY 1862 and 10 CENTS 1863; David Cassel's research, reported by USPatterns, found many of the weights and alloys given in Judd to be wrong. This suffix appears in PCGS or NGC listings but not in the USPatterns or Greysheet lists of Judd numbers, so what sets it apart is not recorded here. Catalogued as Judd-328a. Cataloged as PCGS #70487.
