1862 Atypical Die Clash ADC-5C-1862-01

Description

ADC-5c-1862-01 This is a very strong, unabraded die clash that is found on a 1862 half dime. The overlay provided shows the position of the dies when they did clash. It is a rare die clash that shows the clash marks left by the peripheral lettering as this die does. This coin comes to this site by courtesy of “Skip” Pfeiffer. The above three pictures of the obverse show the clashed elements of the wreath and the bow which is seen through Liberty’s head. The next three pictures of the reverse die show the various clashed design elements. Note the clash peripheral lettering seen outside the wreath’s arms in pictures 2 and 3. To aid in identification of this die look for the re-punched date. The 1 and 8 digits show doubling. Also, look for the two die cracks at the bottom of the reverse die. The semi circle under the bow is the clash mark left by Liberty’s head.
