Description
Judd-267, Pollock-315, is one of the most historically significant patterns in all of American numismatics. This transitional half dime was struck using the new obverse die of 1860 paired with the old-style reverse of 1859, creating a coin that exists as neither the old design nor the new. Often called the "coin without a country" because it lacks the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA legend that would normally appear on the reverse, this half dime was produced during the transition between the Stars and Legend reverse types. The obverse features the seated Liberty design with the date 1860, while the reverse shows the cereal wreath surrounding HALF DIME without any national identification. Struck in silver with a reeded edge, it represents one of the more available transitional patterns of the era.
