Description
The 1854 (D) Liberty Gold Dollar, struck at the Dahlonega Mint, is part of the Liberty Head Gold Dollars 1849-1854 collection. The Dahlonega Mint struck 2,935 gold dollars dated 1854. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY, encircled by thirteen stars, and the reverse displays a wreath enclosing the denomination 1 DOLLAR and the date. Last year of the Type 1 design. The Type 2 (Small Indian Princess) replaced it with a larger 15mm diameter to address the tiny coin's impracticality. Dahlonega's Georgia mint operated from 1838 to 1861, processing Appalachian gold into coins. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 1.672 grams, 13 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #7526.
