Description
The 1847 (O) Liberty Head Quarter Eagle was struck at the New Orleans Mint as a Gold Quarter Eagle in the Liberty Head Quarter Eagles 1840-1907 series. The New Orleans Mint struck 124,000 quarter eagles dated 1847. The obverse features Liberty facing left wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY and the reverse displays a heraldic eagle with shield on breast, olive branch and arrows in talons. Quarter eagles were struck at Philadelphia, Charlotte, Dahlonega and New Orleans. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 4.18 grams, 18 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #7747.
