Coin Details
Description
The X#25 is a fantasy piece bearing the date 1836 but produced circa 1950, in connection with Texas centennial or sesquicentennial commemorative interest. The obverse features a frontal view of the Alamo mission with the inscription "Republic of Texas" and "One Dollar" around the periphery, and "1836" below the edifice. The reverse displays a large five-pointed star surrounded by the inscription "Thermopylae Had Her Messenger Of Defeat The Alamo Had None," a famous quote attributed to the defense of the Alamo. Struck in silver (Ag), this piece is cataloged in Krause's Unusual World Coins as X#25 with a listed mintage of just 22 pieces. While not an official U.S. Mint product, it is collected alongside early American pattern coinage due to its numismatic interest and extreme rarity.
