Description
This 1800 Draped Bust Large Cent carries the cud CU-1C-1800-03. A cud forms when a section of the die rim fractures and separates, leaving a raised blank area on the struck coin where die steel is missing. Attributed by Cuds on Coins. Robert Scot's Draped Bust design, featuring Liberty with flowing hair, was struck on large copper planchets that put considerable stress on the dies, contributing to the frequency of cud breaks found on early Large Cent issues from this era.
