Description
The 1793 Chain Cent - With Periods is part of the Flowing Hair Chain Cents 1793 series. The figure of 36,103 covers every 1793 Chain cent; how many have the periods is unknown. The obverse features Liberty facing right with flowing hair, with LIBERTY above and the date below, and the reverse displays a chain of 15 links representing the states of the Union. Produced during the earliest years of the United States Mint, when the young republic was establishing its monetary system and coinage traditions. Struck in copper, weighing 13.48 grams, 27 mm in diameter, with a bars and vines edge. Cataloged as PCGS #91341.
