Description
The 1793 Chain Cent - America, Without Periods is a cent produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the Flowing Hair Chain Cents 1793 series. With a mintage of 36,103, this is a scarce issue — the lowest mintage among 3 mint variants, representing only 33% of total production. The obverse features Liberty facing right with flowing hair, surrounded by stars and the reverse displays a chain of 15 links representing the states of the Union. Produced during the earliest years of the United States Mint, when the young republic was establishing its monetary system and coinage traditions. Struck at the original U.S. Mint facility, in continuous operation since 1792. Estimated market value ranges from $604K to $1217K depending on grade and condition.
