Description

The 1793 Chain Cent - America, Without Periods is a cent produced at the Philadelphia Mint as part of the Flowing Hair Chain Cents 1793 series. With a mintage of 36,103, this is a scarce issue. The obverse features Liberty facing right with flowing hair, surrounded by stars, while the reverse displays a chain of 15 links representing the states of the Union. Designed by Attributed to Henry Voight. Struck in copper, weighing 13.48 grams, 27 mm in diameter, with a bars and vines edge. Cataloged as PCGS #1341. The 1793 Chain Cent was the first coin struck for general circulation at the newly established Philadelphia Mint. Among the most historically significant U.S. coins.
