(1790s) Token 1/2P North Wales - Sir Bevois Mule Half Penny
Strike TypeCoin Details
Description
A 1790s mule combining a Washington obverse with a "Sir Bevois" reverse die typically used for Hampshire (England) halfpenny tokens. This muling represents the mixing of dies from different token series at the minting facility. Sir Bevois (Bevis) of Hampton was a legendary medieval knight featured on Southampton tokens. The unexpected combination of Washington and Sir Bevois makes this one of the most curious mules in the colonial token series.
Rarity Notes
Very rare. Mule combinations are unusual and highly collectible.
